St. Anne's Hospital celebrates its one-year anniversary

February 21, 2012 marked the first anniversary of the opening of the new St. Anne’s Hospital in Piaseczno. Over the last year, in the facility near Warsaw, more than 11 thousand patients have been hospitalized and over 2,400 surgeries have been performed, more than 360 being cesarean sections.

The inhabitants of Piaseczno district had been waiting for the genuine medical facility for a long time. Finally, in February 2011, a multi-department hospital opened its doors to patients, and after about 30 years, it is possible for women to to give birth in Piaseczno again.

Next to the existing Department of Internal Medicine new departments including the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology along with the Division of Neonatology, the Department of Paediatrics and the Department Surgery, were opened in the building completed in record time by EMC Medical Institute. A 120-bed hospital that provides services under the contract with National Health Fund and commercially, has immediately been filled with patients.

It was on the night of  February 21, 2011 that the first children were born. Throughout the year nearly 1,400 children have been born.

"We are truly proud that with such professional staff, our hospital has become so popular among patients," - said Robert Starzec  director of the  Piaseczno facility.

On the anniversary of the launch of the hospital, the scope of services offered  was expanded by the "Health Check up after 30-thy", during which in a single day you can have complex tests performed and potential health risks diagnosed.

St. Anne's Hospital employs highly competent specialists. There is a particular interest in the Division of Obstetrics-Gynaecology, for which no small part of the credit should go to the professional and experienced staff  led by Dr. Agnieszka Kurczuk-Powolny, head of the department. Her deputy is Dr. Rafał Kuźlik, while Anna Komaszyńska serves as a head midwife  and  the recognized and appreciated Jeannette Kalyta is a coordinating  midwife.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 27 beds. Residence rooms are double or triple and have their private bathroom each. Our facility offers convenience and comfort to future moms with three private labour rooms equipped with comfortable beds allowing the mother to assume different positions during labour and birth as well as special mattresses, birth balls and  birthing tubs. Also, It is possible for women to have a close family member with them during the birth.

Experienced physicians are employed in the Department of Surgery, headed by Dr. Wojciech Gackowski, the Department of Pediatrics, led by Dr. Anna Wolniewicz, the Division of Neonatology, managed by Dr. Jadwiga Kałandyk and the Department of Internal Medicine headed by Dr. Anna Bujwan. Despite their success, excellent medical staff are not going to rest on their laurels, but they are determined to continue to improve their skills. As part of EMC Interdisciplinary School of Laparoscopy, the hospital in Piaseczno is frequently visited by international specialists such as prof. Józef Dzielicki and prof. Stanislav Czudek and Dr. Andrzej Morawski, who come to train local surgeons and gynaecologists in minimally invasive operating techniques which are invaluable to patients. Unlike conventional surgical procedures, laparoscopic surgery involves minimizing surgical incisions to reduce trauma to the body. The advantages to the patient with laparoscopic surgery versus an open procedure include shorter recovery time, which usually takes 2-3 days.

Furthermore, there is an Outpatient Department which consists of 19 Clinics that operate at St. Anne’s Hospital in Piaseczno. In the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic, where patients are handled by professionals who are regular specialists of  the Hospital in Piaseczno, the health care services provided  include the examination of the genital tract and a foetal biometry performed  using a Voluson 730 Expert 4DUS system which provides video recording  and picture taking options.

In the up-coming weeks, computerized tomography will be introduced to diversify the hospital’s offer.
