Treatment of hernias
At the EuroMediCare hospital in Wrocław, surgical treatment of the following hernia types is provided:
- abdominal, including post-operative
- inguinal
- femoral
- umbilical
A number of surgical techniques are applied, adjusted to the individual needs of each patient. The methods of hernia repair (herniotomy) may be divided into two types:
- Classic – tension repair, consisting in precise herniorrhaphy. Because of the high percentage of hernia recurrence, this method is applied in selected cases only.
- Current – tension-free repair, using plastic meshes. A defect in the fascia (the ring of the hernia) is bridged with a mesh, over which the connective tissue grows to provide a very strong structure, protecting against recurrence. These methods are far more effective but involve a permanent insoluble implant, the mesh..
At present, in the treatment of inguinal hernias, the repair with mesh implantation is considered the so-called “operation of choice”, i.e. the basic method of surgical treatment.
