| Surgical treatment of knee joint disorders: |
- Knee joint arthroscopies
At present the majority of knee disorders requiring surgical intervention are treated entirely or partially with endoscopic techniques, using knee joint arthroscopy techniques. Arthroscopy is an operation during which a micro camera is inserted into the joint inside, through 2-3 mm punctures, together with surgical tools to repair defects – to smooth defective cartilage surfaces, remove damaged meniscuses etc. With this method of treatment, the patient after injury has the chance of a far more rapid return to physical, sporting and occupational fitness than with traditional methods. Arthoscopy has great diagnostic and therapeutic significance in patients with degenerative knee joint disease.
At the EuroMediCare hospital the following types of arthroscopy are performed:
- o diagnostic arthroscopies
- arthroscopic reconstruction of injured cruciate ligaments of the knee with autogenic graft
- arthroscopic treatment of injured meniscuses
- arthroscopic repair of articular cartilage with autogenic cartilage grafts (mosaic plasty)
- therapy for complex knee instability
- repeated, corrective operations following earlier ligament reconstructions
- Knee joint endoprostheses
In patients with advanced degenerative knee joint diseases, the only possibility for effective treatment to restore physical fitness and eliminate chronic pain is implantation of knee joint endoprostheses. These operations are performed using the latest generation of systems for endoprosthesoplasty, including total and one-segment prostheses.
In advanced coxarthrosis, surgical intervention is necessary, with hip joint endoprosthesis implantation. At the EuroMediCare hospital cemented and uncemented endoprostheses are applied, as well as the latest endoprosthetic solution of the BHR system, where the femoral bone head is strengthened with a metal cap, while the joint acetabulum remains intact. Endoprosthesis selection depends on many factors, including the patient’s age and physical fitness.
