Obesity treatment
Obesity treatment with the Bioenteric Intragastric Balloon (BIB) method has been successfully performed for several years at the EuroMediCare hospital in Wrocław. This method consists in placing a BIB balloon, made of special plastic material resistant to gastric juice, in the stomach. This is done during gastroscopy performed under short intravenous anaesthesia with the assistance of an anaesthesiologist. The balloon induces a feeling of satiety, making the patient unable to eat abundantly.
The treatment lasts for up to 6 months, in the course of which the patient may lose from 15 to 50 kg. In order to sustain the slimming effect, the patient should use this time to change his or her eating habits and lifestyle. After 6 months the balloon is removed from the stomach also by gastroscopy. The balloon treatment method may be repeated if necessary.
In order to obtain a permanent decrease in body weight, balloon placement should be only one of the elements of a broader therapy. Each of our patients deciding on Bioenteric Intragastric Balloon therapy has an individually defined treatment programme, including preparation for the procedure and an endocrinological consultation, a consultation with a gastric surgeon, the balloon placement and removal procedures, as well as assistance in maintaining the reduction in body weight.
