Obesity treatment
Obesity treatment with the Bioenteric Intragastric Balloon (BIB)/ Orbera method has been successfully performed at the EuroMediCare hospital in Wrocław since 2002. The process of placing a BIB balloon, made of special plastic material resistant to gastric juice, in the stomach ,which takes up to 20 minutes, is simple and painless. This is done during gastroscopy performed under short intravenous anaesthesia with the assistance of an anaesthesiologist. The balloon induces a feeling of satiety, making the patient unable to eat abundantly, which enhances change of one’s eating habits and lifestyle.
The treatment lasts for up to 6 months, in the course of which the patient may lose from 15 to 50 kg. After 6 months the balloon is removed from the stomach also by gastroscopy. The balloon treatment method may be repeated if necessary.
In obtaining a lasting effect of weight loss patients are assisted by our experts: a nutritionist and psychologist. In order to obtain a permanent decrease in body weight, balloon placement should be only one of the elements of a broader therapy. Each of our patients deciding on Bioenteric Intragastric Balloon therapy has an individually defined treatment programme, including preparation for the procedure, necessary consultation with specialists , physician’s supervision, the balloon placement and removal procedures.
Benefits of the BIB/Orbera method:
- Non-invasive reversible treatment
- proven effective weight loss of average 20 kg compared to diet alone
- helps to induce and maintain the feeling of satiety
